We typically skip decorating for Christmas until Thanksgiving festivities are over, but this year we started a bit early by bringing some holiday magic into the playroom! This room, formerly my office, is where a large portion of our day is spent and it has been so fun making it cozy for the holidays! I would love to have a super fun tree with our children’s handmade ornaments in the years to come.
The piece on the mantle is an old transom window from our home that was removed when we had our master closet built last winter. I honestly assumed it had made it into a dumpster somewhere during the construction phase until I unearthed it in the basement! I just used a regular washable marker to draw some simple pine trees on and voila, a free piece of holiday artwork. Another DIY here is the chalkboard leaned against the wall made of bourbon barrel staves! I topped the mantle off with some faux greenery mixed with fresh cedar clippings.
I guess the theme in here is Chalkboard Christmas because there are four of them. I really think chalkboards scream playroom/schoolroom and are the perfect way to celebrate whatever you’d like all year long! I seasoned my chalkboards first by rubbing chalk all over them and then blending it lightly with a cloth.
